I am working the GOES-R ground system. We have requirements to generate solar imagery products using NetCDF files. There is another self-describing file format (i.e. FITS) that already has the necessary conventions for solar imagery. Assuming there is interest in augment the CF metadata conventions to support solar imagery... I would think it makes sense to make use of FITS/WCS conventions/keywords as applicable to establish necessary conventions for this type of data. Thoughts ? Note that we also have requirements to generate other level 1b space and solar products used by the climate and forecast communities, and there is likely a need for other metadata conventions to express these products in a manner analogous to earth oriented products. ..............End of Message ...............................-->
