Dear Unidata Community, A number of activities and sessions at the AGU Fall Meeting will highlight the increasing importance of data and data science. First, Monday Evening will feature a Conversation with DJ Patil, the Chief Data Scientist of the United States (in Moscone South room 104 at 615). https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm15/meetingapp.cgi/Session/10058 DJ was appointed to the White House in early 2015 and is responsible for helping shape US policies and practices around data and technology. DJ was previously the Chief Scientist at LinkedIn among other leading data and technology positions. There is also a “data swirl” for the first time, connecting many sessions on data (see the Fall Meeting program). >From Tuesday-Thursday afternoon at 330-430, there will be panel discussions in the exhibit hall as part of a “data fair” aimed at connecting researchers with repositories, data providers and facilities. The goal of the Data Fair is to promote data repositories in the Earth and Space Sciences and connect them to publishers. The Wednesday afternoon panel discussion will focus on “Using data repositories for bigger science.” Featured speakers are Steve Worley, NCAR and Tim Ahern, IRIS. Details on the program are here: https://fallmeeting.agu.org/2015/event/agu-data-fair. This fair will also include a map of exhibitors that are data repositories and other information. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting. Kind Regards, Josh Young Unidata Community Services
