In the CSML context at least, the "pointSeries" is the result of the
observation process

No instrument can make "point measurements" - so the items are
observations first and these observations then have geometric properties
(like location or estimated location).

Yes - as I understand it in O&M speak we have the concept of the
"sampling feature" which is the geometry over which we have the result.
This may be different to the geometry where the instrument/observer is
physically located and different again to the geometry over which the
observation is valid.
