Robert,

The _gif, _gf, and _nc programs are linked directly to the device
driver and therefore avoid the use of the message queues- so you
won't see a difference there.

The primary porting issue that Ron has already dealt with is the
lack of the nanosecond function on some platforms (now that OSX which
is BSD based has the SYS_V support).
