I replied but forgot to hit "reply all" hey Mike.. you might want to look in the $NAWIPS/gempak/tables/stns/geog.tbl it has most if not all the projection info the different agencies use quick scan looks like the SPC uses STR so set your maps up like so PROJ = STR/90;-97;0/0;0;0;0 GAREA = SPCUS that should be darn close Hi Mike, If you can't get the exact specs from the SPC, then trial, error, and a lot of patience will eventually get the maps perfectly aligned. The image on " http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/watch/validww.png" has dimensions of 582 x 408. How I would approach this painful process... 1) Save validww.png to your local computer $gpmap clear all the values except: MAP=1 MSCALE=0 GAREA=20;-110;40;-50 PROJ=str/90;-96;0 PANEL=0 TITLE=1 TEXT=1 CLEAR=YES DEVICE=gif | us_test.gif | 582 ; 408 2) run gpmap and compare the image us_test.gif with validww.png 3) rerun gpmap by tweaking the GAREA / PROJ until us_test.gif and validww.png are perfectly aligned I tried the following: GAREA=20;-110;40;-50 GAREA=20;-120;40;-50 GAREA=20;-120;40;-40 GAREA=20;-120;40;-60 GAREA=20;-115;45;-60 GAREA=20;-115;45;-65 GAREA=20;-115;50;-65 GAREA=22;-112;50;-67 I'm giving up b/c I don't have time to do this...but you should be able to match them up eventually. Hopefully you can get the actual specs or someone out there knows a better way of doing this. He was telling me it was either LCC or NPS (I think). I am trying to orient the lines so that if I draw me a personal outlook, that I can verify it exactly with a SPC map, to verify reports with my outlook. Can you guys please help me? Here is a perfect example: http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/watch/validww.png Thanks, Mike -----Original Message----- From: gembud-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:gembud-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of gembud-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, June 11, 2010 2:00 PM To: gembud@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: gembud Digest, Vol 17, Issue 5 Send gembud mailing list submissions to gembud@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://mailman.unidata.ucar.edu/mailman/listinfo/gembud or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to gembud-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx You can reach the person managing the list at gembud-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of gembud digest..."
