Hi all- I want to provide an update on the issue of installing the IDV on Mac OS-X. The details are: - systems running Mac OS-X 10.4.4 or higher which have a GeFORCE card experience flickering of the display and/or a continued flickering/screen burn in even after the IDV is exited. We recommend that if you are running the configuration above, that you not install the IDV on that system because in could cause permanent damage to your screen (and it makes the IDV unusable). We have been in contact with Apple in an effort to solve this. Note that this is specific to Mac OS-X 10.4.4 or higher and only on systems that have the GeFORCE card in them. Older versions of Mac OS-X and systems with other graphics cards do not exhibit this behavior. This is also not a problem with GeFORCE cards on other operating systems. The problem seems to stem from the fact that the GeFORCE card lists itself as being stereo enabled and the IDV sets itself up for that mode. We have implemented a workaround for this in the next release (1.3b2 due out tomorrow) which will turn off stereo rendering by default. Any IDV users that use it in stereo (e.g., for GeoWall displays) will have to modify the runIDV script to enable stereo. That applies to all operating systems at this point, but should affect only a small number of IDV users. In the future, we will try to implement a solution that only applies to the problem system (Mac OS-X). If you have been waiting for a solution to this problem, please download the new version when it is available and let us know if this indeed does solve the problem.
