Re: [idvusers] Running IDV headlessly (Mac OS X)

I always wanted to try -nogui or -noerrorsingui command line options with the
isl script. Before that set a display like export DISPLAY=:0 in bash

I have a working version of IDV doing pngs and gifs from gfs forecasts in the
background. I use XVFB.

as far as i remember ( can’t connect to my machine bit sick on bed now, can
probably send you script on monday.)
my bash script looked like this on a redhat based machine, i guess things
should be similar on other machines.

export DISPLAY=:0
xargs Xdummy -reset &
export DISPLAY=:0
runIDV testing.isl

Cheers,
Suvi

Hi,

I have been able to run a McIDAS-V jython script to create images headlessly on
a linux machine. I do have to run using Xvnc. It is fairly simple to run Xvnc
if it is installed, connect to the display and run the script. Also, from my
mac, I can use chicken of the vnc to run a session interactively for debugging
purposes.

Not sure if this helps, but I think that running a IDV bundle should work as
well.

Dave,

We too were wondering if anyone has been recently successful with headless IDV,
but in a linux environment. At last check, some folks had IDV running with 32
bit CentOS + Xvfb, but it would be strongly preferable to be able to run
headless IDV in a 64 bit environment. If there are folks that have had
success with headless IDV (Linux or MacOS), please speak up!

For what it's worth, I have an old Windows 7 box dedicated to running a few ISL
scripted bundles via the task manager. It's clunky/slow, and I would like to
retire it, but it has been working reliably for over a year.
