Brendon, We get some ECMWF data from the OSO (I think it's actually called OCIO now?) ftp server and we noticed awhile back that we stopped getting the ECMWF data that NCEP was putting on their new ftp server (tgftp.nws.noaa.gov). It's still on their "old" server (tgsv1.nws.noaa.gov) for some reason, so we just get it from there. Anyways, I asked around and talked with Luis Cano at NCEP who told me that the ECMWF data contains grids that are restricted. I've attached the correspondence that Luis and I had. Hope this helps! You may want to get in touch with Luis yourself if you have any more questions? Since we archive every product with a WMO header that starts with H, and since we ingest both from our own NOAAPORT system and the IDD, I do not suspect a data transmission problem (the logs clearly indicate that there has been no data loss). Rather, I suspect ECMWF and/or NOAA may have changed the headers on some of the products distributed and/or removed some products from the datastream. I checked http://www.nws.noaa.gov/datamgmt/notices.shtml to see if there were any changes, but could not find any, nor could I find anything useful on the ECMWF website. I would like to be able to find some sort of documentation to support my theory but I'm running out of places to look. Any suggestions? Thanks, Brendon The WMO headers in question are: > 2002/03/28 : > HP(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A98 ECMF 281200 > HH(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A50 ECMF 281200 > HT(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A85 ECMF 281200 > H(U,V)(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A(20,50,70,85) ECMF 281200 > 2002/03/29 : > HR(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A(70,85) ECMF 291200 > HT(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A85 ECMF 291200 > H(U,V)(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A(20,50,70,85) ECMF 291200 > 2002/03/31 : > H(U,V)(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A(20,70) ECMF 311200 > 2002/04/0101 : > HP(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A98 ECMF 011200 > HR(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A(70) ECMF 011200 > HH(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A50 ECMF 011200 > H(U,V)(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A(20,50,85) ECMF 011200 > 2002/04/02 > HP(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A98 ECMF 011200 > HR(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A(70,85) ECMF 011200 > HH(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A50 ECMF 011200 > HT(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A85 EMCF 021200 > H(U,V)(A,B,C,D,I,J,K,L)A(20,50,70,85) ECMF 011200 -- _______________________________________________________ Brendon Hoch International Research Institute for climate prediction Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University 141/208 Monell, 61 Route 9W, Palisades, NY 10964 ------------------------------------------------------- Phone: (845)680-4444 Fax:(845)680-4488 mailto:bhoch@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://iri.columbia.edu/~bhoch -------------------------------------------------------
--- Begin Message ---Brian, As part of upgrading NCEP public servers, a survey was conducted of non-NCEP data being made publicly available. The ECMWF data was flagged and subsequently verified to contain restricted grids. Because of this, the ECMWF grids were not made available on the new NCEP public servers (ftp://ftpprd.ncep.noaa.gov) and will soon be disabled on the old server as part of it's normal retirement. We are investigating making a new ECMWF product that contains non-restricted grids, however, these grids will probably be a (significant) small subset of what was previously being made available. This new product will be what is made available on the public servers. Depending on when tgsv1 retirement, the ECMWF grids will either be disabled or replaced with the new non-restrictive product.
