I've fixed the problem with the following: #echo 1 > /proc/sys/xen/independent_wallclock #date -s 'Tue Feb 23 16:42:09 EST 2010' #crontab -e */30 * * * * /usr/sbin/ntpd -q >> /var/log/ntpd.log 2>&1 Haven't had a problem since. Don't know if it's relevant but we've had issues with significant VM-Server time drifting which ntp doesn't seem to play nice with. It sounds similar to the original description where ntpd is running but not keeping the time in sync. I believe we've limited the issue to ESXi based hosts but I'd have to double check that. Note that's ESXi, not pure ESX. We've just abandoned those hosts from any time sensitive uses since the issue hasn't been addressed and we have other options for virtual hosts.
