Users of LDM/IDD UNIWISC imagery: Yesterday evening at 23:43 UTC the GOES-12 (aka GOES-M, formerly GOES-East) imager was turned off. GOES-12 was officially decommissioned today, 20130816. The impacts of the decommissioning include: - loss of GOES-South scans in Unidata-Wisconsin (LDM/IDD datastream UNIWISC, aka MCIDAS) east image sectors - cessation of ADDE access to GOES-South imagery GOES-12 ably served the atmospheric and space science communities since it began operations on April 1, 2003. Unidata will be repurposing the equipment used to ingest and serve GOES-12 data in the near future. The following is the final announcement we received regarding the decommissioning of GOES-12: Date: Tue, 13 Aug 2013 12:01:21 EDT From: Natalia Donoho - NOAA Federal <natalia.donoho@xxxxxxxx> Subject: Administrative, Reminder and Update: Notification of GOES-12 (GOES-South America) Decommissioning Date, Issued: August 13, 2013, 1600 UTC Update: Status of GOES-12 (GOES-South America) Sounder and Imager; GOES-12 EMWIN Broadcast and GOES-Services (GOES-DCS, LRIT, SARSAT and EMWIN). Topic: Notification of GOES-12 (GOES-South America) Decommissioning Date/Time Issued: August 13, 2013 1600 UTC Product(s) or Data Impacted: GOES-12, All Instruments Date/Time of Initial Impact: August 16, 2013 Date/Time of Expected End: N/A Length of Outage: N/A Details/Specifics of Change: GOES-12 is scheduled to be decommissioned on August 16, 2013. Update: GOES-12 Sounder electronics were turned off at 1100 UTC on August 13, 2013, which will be the conclusion of all data products from the GOES-12 Sounder. The uplink of EMWIN data to GOES-12 will be turned off at 1400 UTC on August 15, 2013 All the services (LRIT, EMWIN, DCS, SARSAT) will be stopped permanently in preparation for GOES-12 End-of-Life at 2300 UTC on August 15, 2013 The GOES-12 Imager data will be turned off at approximately 2330 UTC on August 15, 2013. GOES-12 de-orbit maneuvers are scheduled at 0100 UTC and 1300 UTC on August 16, 2013. GOES-12 was launched on July 23, 2001, and it has supported South America at 60W since May 2010. The spacecraft engineering team in the The Office of Satellite and Product Operations (OSPO) was granted approval from NESDIS headquarters to proceed with plans to decommission the spacecraft after evaluating its health and ability to provide meaningful data to the scientific and weather community.
