All, Back in December or so, ECMWF stopped transmitting the 2.5 deg ECMWF data that had previously been available on the HDS data stream. It wasn't nearly enough to initialize a model from, or do much analysis, but it was enough to get a reasonable comparison of what the ECMWF was doing compared to other models. ECMWF currently makes 0.5 degree data for the same products available on an ftp server, but there are different tiers of access (https://www.ecmwf.int/en/forecasts/datasets/public-wmo-and-acmad-datasets) The publicly accessible (to anyone) data are severely limited, with only Mean sea level pressure, 500 hPa Geopotential height, and 850 hPa Temp, and the U and V components of the wind available (along with some other similar products based on their Ensemble suite) The WMO members additional products include all of the other fields that used to come over the HDS feed at 2.5 deg. These are 850 and 700 hPa Relative Humidity, 200, 500, and 700 hPa U and V wind components, 700 hPa relative vorticity and divergence, and surface Mean Wave direction, period, and significant wave height of combined wind waves and swell (and again some stuff based on their Ensemble suite) To access this WMO additional data, a password is required - the web site states "To request access, WMO Members should ask their Permanant Representative to send an email to The Director General ECMWF DG@xxxxxxxxx" It turns out that our WMO permanent representative is Louis Uccellini, Director of the NWS and a UW-Madison alumni that I personally know. I had thrown around the idea of reaching out to him to see if I can get a password to access the WMO Additional products, but conversations with others here at Madison brought up the question.. would it make more sense for the Unidata folks to reach out to Louis and see about accessing and making the WMO additional data available to the Unidata community (or at least those who are members of the WMO.) Thoughts? Does it make sense for Unidata to try to find a way to make this data available on one of our IDD data streams, or should I just go ahead and contact Louis and try to get my own access?
