Re: Uses for NcML

NOTE: The netcdf-hdf mailing list is no longer active. The list archives are made available for historical reasons.

Thanks Russ. It was me that asked.

The HDF5 XML stuff is at:

 http://hdf.ncsa.uiuc.edu/HDF5/XML/

although the 1.6 versions won't be available until later this summer.

My thinking is that there should be a straightfoward connection between
NcML and the HDF5 XML, similar to the abstract mapping. In the case
of XML, there might be a stylesheet to transform (see the old paper
at:
  http://hdf.ncsa.uiuc.edu/HDF5/XML/nctoh5/writeup.htm
for the vision.)

I don't know if this will be in scope for this project, we'll have to
see.

Hi,

In the teleconference we just had about the netCDF-4/HDF5 project,
someone (Quincey? Bob?) asked about NcML. I recommend this document
to see some of the intended uses for NcML:

Currently this sort of thing is supported for Java, but ultimately we
hope to make it possible from C as well. Maybe you also have these
kinds of uses in mind for your XML representation of HDF5 data.
