SCIENTIFIC SOFTWARE ENGINEER II The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, has an opening in its Unidata Program Center for a Software Engineer II. Unidata--a national program to help universities access, analyze, and display a wide range of atmospheric data--serves teaching and research professionals in weather forecasting, climate studies, atmospheric analysis, modeling, and related disciplines. As a member of the Unidata User Support group, the successful candidate will provide support services and serve as an initial point of contact in the use and maintenance of Unidata's meteorological data analysis and display systems. This includes hardware and software troubleshooting, helping new sites get started, incremental software development, testing, maintenance, documentation, training and consultation. REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE --B.S. in meteorology, a related physical science, computer science, math, OR the equivalent combination of education and experience; --Demonstrated skill in training and consulting with users on major scientific or engineering software systems; --Demonstrated skill in working as a team member on scientific or engineering computing projects; --Excellent oral and written communication skills; --Skill in C or FORTRAN programming; --Skill in pursuing work-related goals with determination and follow-through; --Working knowledge of UNIX or OS/2 operating system; --Familiarity with the use of workstations in a local area network environment; --Familiarity with the national computing networks; --Willingness to travel occasionally.
