Ncview version 1.38b is now available. Ncview is a visual browser for numerical netCDF data files. It pops up a color-contour window of your data, and a control panel from which you can access the variables in your file along the applicable dimensions. You can animate the data along the "unlimited" dimension (often Time) to make a simple movie. It's a nice tool to quickly get a feel for just what your data looks like and how it is evolving. Source for ncview is available by anonymous ftp from unidata.ucar.edu in file pub/netcdf/contrib/ncview.tar.Z. I also have binaries available for those who can't or don't want to build the package themselves. The binaries are available by anonymous ftp from cirrus.ucsd.edu in directory pub/ncview_binaries. There are currently binary versions made for the following platforms: Dec Alpha (OSF/1); Dec Ultrix; HP/UX; SunOS; SGI Irix 5.2 and 6.0.1. Please note that you need the latest *standard* version of the netCDF library to compile Ncview. It doesn't presently work if you've installed the experimental C++ interface, due to changes in the netCDF header files. --David Pierce Scripps Institution of Oceanography Climate Research Division dpierce@xxxxxxxx
