You can view data along various axes, and animate along the time axis for simple animations. If you click on a spot in the color contour window, a line plot pops up showing details of how the variable evolves. Support of time values formatted in 'udunits' standards is included when udunits is installed. Ncview does not replace complex analysis packages such as IDL, Ferret, etc.; rather it complements them by being quick and easy but still useful. Ncview uses the X windows system and runs under various Unix variants, including Linux. Changes in this release include: 1) Popping up X-Y plots along the time axes with multiple input data files now works correctly. 2) When you move the mouse over the popup X-Y plot, you get a readout of the mouse's position in data units. Very handy! 3) The configuration and installation system has been completely changed. It used to use 'xmkmf', which was difficult to deal with because it is often not installed, or installed incorrectly. Now it uses the standard gnu 'configure' tools. *Please let me know if it does not install correctly on your system!!* --------------------------------------------------------------- David W.
