format in netcdf

dear all,
i am new in the netcdf world.........i am using the FORTRAN interface of 
netcdf. i have a small problem with the format of netcdf file............i am 
generating a data in ascii file with specific format of 'f5.1'........i can 
also generate the netcdf file of the same data but i am having a problem with 
format....i want to store the same data with the format f5.1 in my netcdf 
file..............how can i do that.........i would be grateful if some one 
could help me....
