Builds and works for me on a PowerPC Mac running Mac OS X 10.4.6 with
Xcode 2.3 (gcc 4).

BTW, you mentioned previously that this release 'should support cross-
compilation'.  Are you familiar with 'Universal Binaries' on Mac OS X? 
Do you know if the new netcdf build system would support making UBs?
