Hi Dennis,
With this beta2-release, I'm unable to open a URL if the filename contains a  
colon character.  I'm calling it via the Fortran api, and my call to nf_open 
returns this error

 ncdap3.c:86: NCD3_open: Assertion `dappanic("libncdap3: non-url path")' failed.

If I renaming the file, it will open successfully and I can read from it.
