Howdy all! I have recently been working on a new way of building netCDF for windows (i.e. netCDF DLLs). The goal for the 4.1.2 release is a set of netCDF C DLLs and utilities, which do not have the opendap client, but do have full access to netCDF-4/HDF5 files. This means that users must also have the HDF5 and zlib DLLs. Furthermore, the generally available HDF5 and zlib DLLs are not right for this. So I built and included copies of these DLLs as well. I need some hardy windows programmers to test out the result. Get the file from: ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/netcdf-4/netcdf_4.1.2-beta3_dll.zip Unzip this file and you will find a directory called "in1". Under there are bin, lib, include, and share directories. The bin directory contains the utilities (as well as all the HDF5 ones) and the DLLs. The netCDF header is in the include directory, documentation under the share directory. The utilities (ncdump, ncgen, nccopy) all have "mingw32-" prepended to their name. The netCDF DLL is called cygnetcdf-7.dll. If anyone would like to give these a try and let me know how they work (responding to me, not the list), that would be most helpful. It's very important to tell me if these worked for you, not just if they failed. ;-) I have not yet generated the (windows-only) .lib file. Is this file really needed? Seems like the utilities are accessing the DLLs just fine without it. Thanks! Ed -- Ed Hartnett -- ed@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
