The netCDF-4.1.3-beta1 release is now available:

This release fixes two important bugs:

1 - The dreaded nofill bug - a bug that has been in the netCDF library
for many years, but only occurs under unusual conditions, as described
by Russ in a recent email.

2 - The netCDF-4/HDF5 files created with previous releases of netCDF all
called upon the HDF5 library to use the latest and greatest internal
features. This had the side-effect of making such files unreadable for
earlier versions of HDF5. For example, files produced by netCDF-4.1.2
may be unreadable to netCDF-4.0. (The fix is to upgrade.) The
4.1.3-beta1 release includes a change to tell HDF5 to use internal
objects that can be understood by some previous versions of HDF5.

This release also includes a simplification of the netCDF build
process. Several configure options have been removed, including the
--with-hdf5 option. (Instead set CPPFLAGS and LDFLAGS to appropriate
values.)
