Every four or five years the HITRAN scientific database is updated and I have to run scripts to ingest the new numbers into various programs. I wrote the scripts in Perl with netcdf-perl ~1994, and havn't significantly modified them since (nor do I wish to!). I just finished this quadrennial exercise in netcdf-perl testing and I'm pleased that once again the netCDF-2 API with netcdf-perl proved their stability.
