Alex, Attaching the config.log is always a very wise decision, as we always paste the wrong part of the output when asking for help. :) I see you missed libcurl. You probably has the ‘curl’ command on your SuSe, do you? If not, yum/yast/zypper it. Both curl and libcurl, to be safe. Sorry, I really forgot about libcurl being in the dependency tree among with HDF5. In fact, I believe libcurl is needed for HDF5 which in turn is needed for NetCDF, thus the relationship. You didn’t tell whether you tried or not to yum/yast/zypper you a precompiled HDF5 version. I believe you should have this available thru the SuSe package manager. Both, curl and HDF5, by the way. And as I previously suggested, yes, it is expected to be a troublesome installation, specially for those who are not well acquainted to the ./configure stuff. Even after experience compiling Apache, PHP, mysql, qmail and even Xorg from the very sources, I have had hard times trying to compile NetCDF. Although GNU Build System helps the process, there are so many different platforms with so many different setups that we can’t even guess whether you have this or that required package pre-compiled for the platform distro version. It may have been worse should NetCDF did not use GNU Build System (which consists of these ./configure stuff), or uset it with no conformance, as it would only be compile-able in a given compiling environment used at ucar labs. Again if you can and you are not an expert at compiling, linux packages, you’d better stick to pre-compiled binaries than waste too much time trying to get the library to even work. :) - fabricio From: alexalex43210 Sent: Thursday, August 15, 2013 6:18 AM To: netcdfgroup Subject: [netcdfgroup] about installation netcdf4.3.0 configuration fault Hello group, enclosed is my config.log after ./configure of netcdf. it reported: configure: error: Can't find or link to the hdf5 library.
