Padala,

Not sure about this, but I think you need to specify the upper level
install directory for HDF5, not including the "lib" subdirectory.
"lib" should be added automatically by the configure process.  This
would be consistent with your reported symptom.  HTH:

  --with-hdf5=/usr/local/hdf5
