Thanks for the suggestion to use
ncrcat --rec_apn incremental_update.nc archive_file.nc

The instrument currently writes one output file for every hour.  I suppose I 
could also have it generate incremental files every minute or so, and copy the 
incremental files to the server, where we’d append them to the archive_file.
