Netcdf group,
ncdump with the -bf option does not work correctly in version 4.3.0
(e.g., on yellowstone.ucar.edu). It does not display the fortran-style
indices when printing data. The ncdump command I am using on yellowstone
is /glade/apps/opt/netcdf/4.3.0/intel/12.1.5/bin/ncdump.

I have attached two files: ncdump.desktop.ncd is from my local desktop (which has netcdf version 3.6.2), and displays the expected format for the data var XNARG. Second, looking at the man page the -b and -f option seems alternative to me as one provide the brief, the other the full annotations in the form of a CDL comment. Please clarify what is your expected behavior and its documentation.
