quick update - this doesn’t show up with netcdf-4.3.3.1 on the very same 
system. My call to ./configure:

./configure \
--prefix=/…somedir… \
--disable-dap \
--enable-netcdf-4 \
--enable-netcdf4 \
--enable-pnetcdf \
--enable-parallel-tests \
--enable-shared \
--enable-static 2>&1 | tee log.config
make 2>&1 | tee log.make
sed -i 's/mpiexec/srun -N 1/g' `grep -lRie 'mpiexec' *`
make check 2>&1 | tee log.check
