Hello all, The first release candidate for the netCDF-C library version 4.4.1 is now available. There have been a number of improvements since the 4.4.0 release. Most importantly, this release candidate is able to write backwards-compatible netCDF4 files when using *HDF5 version 1.10.0*. As announced previously, using HDF5 1.10.0 with netCDF 4.4.0 would result in netCDF4 files which were unreadable by systems using an earlier version of libhdf5. See GitHub #250 <https://github.com/Unidata/netcdf-c/issues/250> for more information. The full set of changes captured in the release notes may be viewed here <https://github.com/Unidata/netcdf-c/blob/v4.4.1-rc1/RELEASE_NOTES.md>. The release-candidate documentation may be viewed on the Unidata website at http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/docs_rc, and the release may be downloaded from the Unidata GitHub page found at https://github.com/Unidata/netcdf-c/releases/tag/v4.4.1-rc1. The full 4.4.1 release will also be made available from the Unidata website, but for now the release candidates are restricted to GitHub. There are a handful of issues to be resolved before the full 4.4.1 release, but we felt it was important to address the potential compatibility issue ASAP. The list of pending issues targeted for the 4.4.1 release may be viewed here <https://github.com/Unidata/netcdf-c/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue+milestone%3A4.4.1>. We will also be releasing the new versions of the Fortran and C++ interfaces in short order, but the issue described above took highest priority once discovered. We look forward to your feedback; have a great weekend all! -Ward Ward Fisher wfisher@xxxxxxxx UCAR/Unidata - Software Engineer
