PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HEADQUARTERS WASHINGTON DC 200 PM EDT WED JUL 27 1994 TO: FAMILY OF SERVICES (FOS) SUBSCRIBERS, NOAA WEATHER WIRE SERVICE (NWWS) SUBSCRIBERS, OTHER NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE (NWS) PRODUCT USERS, NWS EMPLOYEES FROM: DONALD R. WERNLY, CHIEF, WARNING AND FORECAST BRANCH SUBJECT: CHARLESTON, WV (CRW) WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST OFFICE'S SHORT-FUSE COUNTY WARNING AREA EXPANDS OCTOBER 3, 1994 Effective Monday, October 3, 1994 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, the National Weather Service (NWS) will transfer short-fuse warning responsibility for 33 counties in West Virginia (15), southeast Ohio (9), northeast Kentucky (7), and southwest Virginia (2) (see Table 1) TO the Charleston, West Virginia (CRW), Weather Service Forecast Office (WSFO). These counties will be transferred FROM Weather Service Offices (WSO) in West Virginia (Huntington-HTS, Elkins-EKN, Beckley-BKW), Ohio (Columbus-CMH, Akron-CAK), and Tennessee (Bristol-TRI). For these counties, WSFO CRW will issue short-fuse warning products (Table 2) and related products that give follow-up information on the warnings (Table 3). For holders of NWS Operations Manual Chapter C-47, County Warning Areas, this transfer is the 35th update of 1994. Because of this county warning transfer, subscribers to the NOAA Weather Wire Service (NWWS) and the Family of Services (FOS) must take appropriate action to receive the short-fuse warnings and related products for these 33 counties using the CRW identifier (Tables 2 and 3) instead of the HTS, EKN, BKW, CMH, CAK, and TRI identifiers. For example, if you have been receiving severe thunderstorm warnings using the identifier CLESVRCMH you will have to change to CRWSVRCRW. The Universal Generic Codes (UGC), however, will remain unchanged (as shown in Table 1). TABLE 1: Counties transferred to CRW.
