---------- Forwarded Message ---------- Folks: Here is a memo from Eric Rogers announcing the switch to the nested Meso Eta threats runs being run in test mode on the PROD side of the computer. Starting at 12Z 5/7 the Eta threats runs which have been displayed on the web (http://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/mmb/mmbpll/nestpage/) and placed on the NCEP ftp server will switch to using the "production" parallel threats runs. These runs are using the schedule agreed upon by the NWS regions: 00Z : 12-km Alaska, 10-km Hawaii Found at ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/emc/Alaska12.t00z/, ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/emc/hi10.t00z/ 06Z : 10-km western US, 10-km Puerto Rico Found at ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/emc/West10.t06z/, ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/emc/pr10.t06z/ 12Z : 10-km central U.S., 10-km Hawaii Found at ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/emc/Central10.t12z/, ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/emc/hi10.t12z/ 18Z : 10 km eastern U.S, 10-km Puerto Rico Found at ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/emc/East10.t18z/, ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/emc/pr10.t18z/ Differences between these runs and the parallel runs: 1) The EMC parallel threats runs all had 12-h precipitation buckets, so displays of intermediate forecast hours were a running total (e.g., 6-h,18-h,30-h, 42-h forecasts showed 6-h accumulations, 9-h, 21-h, 33-h, 45-h showed 9-h accumulations). The production runs of the Eta threats all have 3-h precipitation buckets, so the web displays will now show 3-h accumulations, 0-48 h accumulations, and 24-h accumulations valid at 00Z and 12Z. 2) GRIB files: Output of grid #218 (called AWIP10, the10 km CONUS AWIPS grid) for the three CONUS threats runs has been replaced by output from regional AWIPS grids which are approximately the same size as the domain of these nests. They are: grid #245 : Eastern US grid grid #246 : Western US grid grid #247 : Central US grid All of the above grids will be called AWIP10ff.tm00, ff=00,03,06,...48 Grid #242 for the Alaskan threats run has been replaced by a smaller polar stereogrphic grid which covers only the area of the 12-km Alaska domain. It is called grid #249 Attached is a Wordperfect document with the details on these 4 new grids. There are no changes to output grids from the Hawaii or Puerto Rico threats runs, or to any of the BUFR soundings. - ------------- End Forwarded Message -------------
