May 17, 2002 MEMORANDUM FOR: Distribution E FROM: John H. Ward Chief, Production Management Branch SUBJECT: Changes to the NWS Production Suite The grid configuration of the GFDL hurricane model will be modified on Tuesday, 21 May 2002. Under the new two-nest grid configuration, the region covered by 1/6 degree resolution will be increased from a 5 degree domain to 11 degrees. This area corresponds to the region previously covered by the 1/3 degree resolution middle grid. In addition, the resolution of the outer most grid will be changed from 1 degree to 1/2 degree. Details of the new model configuration can be found at: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/tpb/492bodydraft.htm New disks will be added to the NFS and the GPFS on both ASP and BSP during the months of May and June. While this work is occurring, users should be aware that the development machine may be unavailable. In addition, there will be lengthy periods when production will be running on the development machine. The complete schedule for these upgrades can be found at: http://ibmdocs.ncep.noaa.gov/may2002.html A list of the major model implementations planned for 2002 can be found at: http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/changes As additional information about each implementation becomes available, links will be added on the change summary page.
