Topic: GOES-8 Change to Reference Longitude July 25, 2002 Message Issued: July 23, 2002, 1222 UTC Satellites Impacted: GOES-8 Products Impacted: GOES-8 GVAR Data (Imager and Sounder Data) Date/Time of Initial Impact: July 25, 2002 0030 UTC -------------------------- Details: Note that scan operations will NOT be impacted, but a one time shift in navigation may be seen. GOES-8 will be outside the 74.5W-75.5W longitude box on July 25. Following the GOES-8 East-West station keeping maneuver on July 30, the spacecraft will continue to be outside the box until August 06. To prevent image shearing, the OATS(Attitude/Tracking/System) reference longitude will be modified from it's nominal 75.0W longitude to 75.5W longitude on July 25 at 0030Z. The 75.0W reference longitude will be re-instated on Aug 06 at 0030Z. A slight one time perspective change may be noticed by GVAR users, during these reference longitude installation time periods. Summary of These Changes: Reference longitude to shift from 75.0W to 75.5W at 0030Z on July 25, 2002. Reference longitude to shift from 75.5W to 75.0W at 0030Z on August 06, 2002. --------------------------- Contact Information: Tom Renkevens Satellite Analysis Branch Satellite Services Division NOAA/NESDIS/OSDPD 301-763-8081 x109 thomas.renkevens@xxxxxxxx See http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/SATS/messages.html for this and other satellite related messages.
