The **NCEP NCO CM Staff has been asked to share the following announcement with our customers and partners as it has a wide-enterprise impact. If you have any questions regarding this work, please contact one of the individuals listed at the end of the message. 


*Notification of Network Outage*
*_Brief Description_*: Committee for Operational Processing Centers (COPC) DATMS-U network upgrade
*_Full Description_*: The COPC DATMS-U network provides an operational path between NWS/NESDIS and AFWA/FNMOC/NAVO. This network is a DISA managed DoD network and NWS/NESDIS network access is via the NWS Telecommunication Operations Center (TOC) network. The DATMS-U component of the network will be upgraded from an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) backbone to DoD’s Optical Transport Network (OTN) and will provide a bandwidth increase to the COPC Organizations.
*_Probable adverse impact_*: Change impacts NESDIS, NCEP, TOC, AFWA, FNMOC, NAVO with secondary impacts to customers of these Centers: 
- Pacific Region using COAMPS data
- FNMOC grids used by EMC for NAEFS and TPC
- NWS Monterey
- NATICE (National Ice Center)

*_Locations_*: NWS TOC, AFWA, FNMOC and NAVO

*_Priority_*: 1-High
*_Date_*: 02/03/2010 17-19Z. A backup date of 03/03/2010 17-19z has been coordinated in case of Critical Weather Day (CWD) or problems necessitating a back-out during the 02/03/2010 network upgrade.
