NOUS41 KWBC 072005 PNSWSH Public Information Notice, Comment Requested National Weather Service Headquarters Washington DC 305 PM EST Tue Feb 7 2012 To: Subscribers: -Family of Services -NOAA Weather Wire Service -Emergency Managers Weather Information Network -NOAAPORT Other NWS partners and NWS employees From: Kim Runk Chief, Integrated Services Division Central Region Headquarters Subject: Comments Requested starting April 2, 2012 on Modification of Severe Convective Warnings and Associated Follow-Up Statements to Emphasize Impacts, Intensity, and Recommended Actions via Bulleted Messaging and Coded Tag LinesBeginning Monday, April 2, 2012, and continuing through November 30, 2012, select Central Region (CR) NWS Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs) will issue enhanced convective warnings. Severe Thunderstorm Warning (SVR), Tornado Warning (TOR) and Severe Weather Statement (SVS) products will be stratified into categories which distinguish extreme cases from base convective warnings. Additional enhanced wording will be included to convey information about associated impacts, specific hazards expected, and recommended actions, both within the bullet statements and as part of the tag line codes.
The Central Region offices participating in this enhanced product project are:
St. Louis, MO (EAX) Springfield, MO (SGF) Kansas City, MO (EAX) Topeka, KS (TOP) Wichita, KS (ICT). A Product Description Document (PDD) outlining the products is online at: http://products.weather.gov/viewliste.php Please submit comments to: http://www.weather.gov/survey/nws-survey.php?code=IBWUpon the completion of this experimental period and the close of this comment period, NWS will evaluate all comments to determine whether to proceed with further implementation of the enhanced convective products.
