[nws-changes] 20130730: Fwd: [NCEP.List.ModelEvalInfo] NAM urban temperature bias is fixed

-------- Original Message --------

NCEP recently discovered that modifications made to the WCOSS NAM land-surface model inadvertently created a near-surface cool/moist bias over urban areas. The biases are most pronounced during heat wave/high humidity events and are isolated to the largest metropolitan areas. A correction for the problem has been found and test results from 12 continuous parallel cycles of the NAM starting 26 July at 1800UTC confirm that the near surface cool/moist bias in urban areas is removed. This change has been implemented effective with the 18z 30 July NAM run.
