Hi, Roy! Have you tried h4tonccf [1] or OPeNDAP Hyrax hdf4_handler [2] on your product? May I download and look at your data product so that I can test with our tools as well? We'd like to help you if your HDF4 product cannot be converted to or served as NetCDF successfully. The data is stored in an HDF file as a VData - basically one long array or table if you want. The reason it is done this way is the "grid" is irregular, that is each row has a varying number of columns. I can read the data fine in python, but I am trying to find out what options I have for serving it. Clearly one option is to grid the data at a somewhat coarser resolution, and i might do that. But my questions are: 1. Is there a standard way to write this to a netcdf file (I can calculate the lat-lon at the center of each bin)? 2. Can such a file be served by thredds, and if so what would it take. 3. If it can be served by thredds, does what gets returned make sense to someone not familiar with what is going on (basically we deal with unsophisticated users, it must be real clear what is being returned to them). Thanks for any help. -Roy M. ********************** "The contents of this message do not reflect any position of the U.S. Government or NOAA." ********************** Roy Mendelssohn Supervisory Operations Research Analyst NOAA/NMFS Environmental Research Division Southwest Fisheries Science Center 1352 Lighthouse Avenue Pacific Grove, CA 93950-2097 e-mail: Roy.Mendelssohn@xxxxxxxx (Note new e-mail address) voice: (831)-648-9029 fax: (831)-648-8440 www: http://www.pfeg.noaa.gov/ "Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill."
