Bob, I'd take the '/scratch/rabin/jdk1.2beta4' out of your CLASSPATH (I don't know that it hurts, but it might). You don't need to install visad under /scratch/rabin/jdk1.2beta4, but should install it under /scratch/rabin. Your problem may be that your current directory is not /scratch/rabin/visad/data/vis5d when you run 'make' to build the Vis5DForm .so file. So try running in that directory.
