Hi Randy, > Has anyone used VisAD for visualization of data from a legacy > parallel application - as opposed to a Java app? Michael Tobis of Argonne (tobis@xxxxxxxxxxx, and I think he's on this list) has created a modeling workbench with a Java main program that connects subsystem models together via Globus and uses VisAD for visualization. Rob Jacob demo'ed it at SC '98. It is relatively easy to pipe streaming data into VisAD. You can create a thread that updates values in a VisAD Field data object from the data stream, where the Field object is linked to a VisAD display. Of course, it takes some work to get real applications working, but there is no theoretical barrier to what you want to do.
