finally!

Well, after installing Solaris patches, editing the make files, and
redefining
environment variables, I was able to compile the VisAD software and
execute the Simple and Earth examples!

I'm using the reference implementation of the JDK1.2 for Solaris - I
guess
we'll just wait for the final release of the production version.  I
cannot believe
that they would make a major package name change between the
early access 'final' version and the 'real' final version!

Anyway, I guess I had bad timing in trying to download and install
VisAD,
right when Sun decides to release the new JDK!  It looks like a neat
package,
and I look forward to trying it!
