If you are using visad.jar, then you do not need to unpack
it.  Simply add directory/visad.jar to your CLASSPATH.  If
you are using visad_src-2.0.jar to compile VisAD from source
then run 'jar xvf visad_src-2.0.jar' to unpack it.  You can
find instructions in the README file, that is linked from
the VisAD web page.
