Are you coming into the ftp via the VisAD and Vis5D web
pages at:

  http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/~billh/visad.html
  http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/~billh/vis5d.html

If not, you may be coming into an old ftp server.  We are
currently using ftp://www.ssec.wisc.edu/pub/... for our ftp
server, but in the past have used other ftp servers.
