Hi Ilan, > How do you display a two dimensional surface, like in Matlab, using the > SpreadSheet ? It depends on the data. If you import the images.nc file (from ftp://www.ssec.wisc.edu/pub/visad-2.0/images.nc) and select Cell/Edit Mappings, you'll see the MathType: (Time -> ((x, y) -> val) This indicates that images.nc contains a time sequence of images. Click on "Clear All", then: 1. click "x" then "X" (to map x -> XAxis) 2. click "y" then "Y" (to map y -> YAxis) 3. click "val" then "Z" (to map val -> ZAxis) 4. click "Time" then "Anim" (to map Time -> Animation) This will create an animated 2-D surface. If you import a GIF or JPEG image and select Edit Mappings, you'll see the MathType: (ImageElement, ImageLine) -> (Red, Green, Blue)) You can see a surface with the mappings: ImageElement -> XAxis ImageLIne -> YAxis Red -> ZAxis Red -> Red Green -> Green Blue -> Blue The basic idea is that if the data's MathType contains any part like: (...(x, y) -> (...z...)) then you can get a 2-D surface with mappings: x -> XAxis y -> YAxis z -> ZAxis Good luck, Bill ---------------------------------------------------------- Bill Hibbard, SSEC, 1225 W.
