CBS will be trying out a new graphics technique for replays during the Superbowl this Sunday. You can read about it at: http://dev.web.cs.cmu.edu:6666/testReleases/demo/40.html About 25 years ago, when SSEC was struggling to animate GOES or SMS images, our founding director Verner Suomi saw instant replays of football plays on TV. He figured that whatever was doing that could animate his satellite image, found out they used analog disks, and got McIDAS to use them for the first animation workstation.
