rotating the view volume

Dear Bill and The VisAD list,

I would like to know if there is a way to rotate the view volume by a
fixed amount (e.g. 90 degrees) in a fixed direction (e.g. to the left, so
about the volume's own say 'Y' axis).

So in an isosurface rendering program, rather than clumsily rotating the
volume by hand with the mouse click-and-drag, (resulting in a non
deterministic view) using a function call that will specify precisely the
direction and amount to rotate the view volume by.
