Hi,
The group I work with at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center has been working with XML ofr around 4 years now as a research project.
We have been converting a complex ASCII metadata and data files using XML. In the process, the eXtensible Data Format (XDF) was developed.

Here you will find information on our project as well as examples of converted files, software and other goodies.
