The latest beta release of the Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) 1.0 (beta 6) is ready for download. For details on downloading and running the IDV, see: http://my.unidata.ucar.edu/content/software/IDV/ The IDV from Unidata is a software library and framework for visualizing and analysing geoscience data. The IDV release includes a Java(TM)-based software library, and a reference application made from that software. It uses the VisAD library (http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/~billh/visad.html) for data models and for creating visualizations, and other Java-based utility libraries. Highlights of new features in this release: 1) New data/display selection widget. This is the most significant User Interface change. The DataSelection widget replaces the old DataSources tree widget. It allows easier selection of datasources and displays from within one widget. We are interested in feedback on this new feature. If you would like to continue to use the old DataSources tree widget, you can select this through the User Preferences. 2) Reworked netCDF grid reading code. This will allow us to handle more types of grids, including AWIPS netCDF files. Much of the utility of the classes in ucar.unidata.grid has been moved to the ucar.nc2.dataset.grid package as part of the netCDF 2.1 release. Developers should take note of these changes. 3) Preliminary work on time/height displays of wind profiler data. 4) You can now color one isosurface by another variable (ie. RH colored by T). 5) A more robust color table editor. 6) Various and sundry bug fixes, including: - winds in station model plots don't drift - maps now display correctly on global grids 7) Users can now interactively select which display types they wish to use in the application through the User Preferences editor. This will be the last beta release of the IDV. The next full release will be in mid-June. Please see the Unidata IDV Support page: http://my.unidata.ucar.edu/content/software/IDV/docs/UserGuide/IDV_support.html for how to provide input or report problems with the IDV.
