Hi Tom, > VisAD seems to be the only open source Java tool that supports access to > HDF-EOS files. > > Does it support HDF-EOS file creation and writing as well as reading? Sorry to say that it does not. VisAD support for netCDF files is much more robust, and does support creating and writing files. We generally prefer the netCDF file format. For large data sets we also advocate server protocols like OpenDAP and ADDE, enabling clients to download only those parts of large files that they need. Good luck, Bill
