Java Applications Programmer position at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Space Science and Engineering CenterThe Space Science & Engineering Center on the UW-Madison Campus has a position opening (#48076) for a Systems Programmer to work with a small team of education and software experts in the Earth Science Research, Education and Applications Solution Network (REASoN) project, a distributed network of data and information providers for Earth Science Enterprise (ESE) science, applications and education. The team is comprised of experts in meteorology, marine biology, instructional design and computer science. The candidate will create a toolkit of Java applications that can be used to create numerous web-based learning objects. These java applets will need to present a consistent user interface, deal with realtime and archived data from a variety of sources, and encourage highly interactive learning for (mainly) undergraduate education.
Qualifications Required: * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Mathematics, or a Physical Science. * A strong background in the geosciences and computer science. * A creative Java programmer who has experience in highly interactive, web-based applet development. * Needs to be comfortable with physical science projects, data communications issues, and the http server environment.SSEC is a research and development center with an international reputation for formulating and developing instrumentation for both terrestrial and space flight applications. http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/ Deadline September 1st or until a suitable candidate found.
