Ha, so two minutes after posting my previous question, I found the
solution. DisplayRenderer's and VisADCanvasJ2D's calls to
setBackgroundColor do not cater for an alpha channel. With that in
place, I get my desired transparent pngs. Yippee
Can the transparency option be added to a future VisAD release ?
