Missing data is used to indicate an unknown value.
These can be caused by sensor failures and by
computational failures. For example, a dataset may
list temperatures for US cities at a certain time,
but if communication is disrupted when Milwaukee's
temperature is being transmitted, then that value
will be marked missing rather than say 70 degrees.
