Robin,

Sorry to hear about your problem. I don't know of any
similar reports. The fact that your application works with
Hotspot disabled means that the problem is a bug in
Hotspot. I stopped programming in 2004 so am out of
touch with what's happening with Java, but perhaps
there's an alternative to Hotspot for compiling Java.

When I started VisAD in 1996 it included lots of
workarounds for bugs in Java3D. It may be possible to
come up with a workaround for this Hotspot bug, but
it would be a difficult job. With a compiler bug it may be
impossible to get a stack dump of the crash.

Hi Folks
I am working with a third-party application for financial analysis. I observe 
that the application tends to crash when visualizing and rotating a 3D image of 
a surface, unless the VM arg “-XInt” is provided. I also observe that the 
package has dependencies on VisAD (we do not know what version of VisAD is 
used).
-XInt is a VM arg which tells the JVM never to use the HotSpot compiler to 
compile Java bytecode into machine code.
-XInt has obvious performance implications, since all Java bytecode is always 
interpreted.
Without wishing to imply that there are any deficiencies in VisAD itself, has 
anyone else reported a similar issue (perhaps with earlier versions)?
